Full-Grain Leather, Top-Grain Leather & 'Genuine' Leather....Which leather do we use?

Full-Grain, Top-Grain & 'Genuine' Leather products are all made with real leather.

Genuine leather products are made with the lowest quality real leather.

They generally do not last as long or look as nice as Full-Grain or Top-Grain leather. Products marked as genuine leather are made with several layers of low quality leather bonded together and painted to look better-quality.

Top-Grain leather is made by splitting a piece of full-grain leather and sanding away any imperfections in the hide and stamping a fake grain to make it look like a full-grain leather.

Full-Grain leather comes with the entire grain of the hide, including the imperfections from the animal, like a brand or a scar.

Full-grain leather is the strongest of leathers and will develop a rich patina as it ages, looking more and more beautiful as you use it. It is widely recognized as the best and highest-quality leather money can buy.

All standard range Avaloncraft products which are without fancy patterns (like mermaid, roses etc) are made with Full-grain leather. Majority of them are made with vegetable tanned Minerva leather from the Badalassi Carlo tannery in Italy. This leather has exceptionally soft temper while remaining very strong. The colors are also beautiful and patina very well with use.
